Yup. I once tried inserting vu meters in between every plugin on every channel. Conclusion? Only a few gave any useful information and some plugins needed more than unity going in to make them effective. In mixing I only use them now for gain staging if a plug has no metering or to solve a problem! Wise words!

Its really that simple..THERE ARE A TON OF YOUTUBE VIDS WITH OVER EXPLANATION OF THIS METHOD FROM FOLK WHOM SPEND 15 TO 20 MINUTES OF "GAIN-SPLAININ"... ridiculous..smh..yes... THANKS PROFESSOR 💎

Looks like all the bobbleheads agree.
But this is bad advice, and something that can’t be explained in a YouTube Short.
1st problem though: what you’re describing is Level Matching not Gain Staging. A common mistake, but still a mistake.
2nd: it’s true that we’re in 32-bit float+ ITB, and that there’s not really a noise floor ITB (actually…), but SNR was only one part of optimizing your gain structure.
3rd: I’m still baffled at why so many mouse clickers are so eager to not learn the basics. Just learn it and it’ll be second nature.
4th: whatever Time you think you’re saving by Not properly gain staging is time Wasted ten fold chasing after what you should have done right in the first place.
But do you boo!
