What Your iPhone 15 USB-C Port Can & CAN'T Do!

Apple has some new ports on its latest iPhones! The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max all have new USB Type-C ports to charge and connect to accessories. Here is what those ports can do, and can't do including working with external displays, plugging in storage, recording media, and more!

It's unfortunate that there are no reviewers actually testing USB-C file transfers. Is it really such a cumbersome task?
Apart from Apple's marketing, the actual file transfer speed varies widely depending on the performance of the internal controller, even with USB 3.2 equipped.

For example, my Galaxy S23U supports USB 3.2 1x1 (*5 Gb/s) bandwidth, but when actually transferring videos to a PC, it achieves 184 MB/s (1.4 Gb/s).
iPhones come with USB 3.2 2x1, and although Apple's advertising claims support for 10 Gb/s bandwidth, the actual file transfer speed is likely much slower.

Apple Inc. really had to be petty and make it not as powerful as a USB-C cable can be. They didn’t like the EU telling them what to do.

most phone manufacturers provide a charging cable that supports usb 2.0 so it is not a new thing or an apple only thing. Also 14 and 15 series have the same chip which i dont think was designed to support usb 3.0 speeds lie the new chips in the pro phones

They really need to come up with some kind of iconography to emboss on USB-C cables. Something that clearly indicates the capabilities of the cable.

My wife and I both upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro Max and we're looking to purchase extra cables. Does anyone have any recommendations for 6-10 foot charging cables? I'm getting confused because I'm seeing different wattage ratings on different cords and I'm starting to lose my mind a bit. We both also have Macbook Airs and it'd be nice to be able to use the same cord(s)

The fact you can charge other things off ur phone is fantastic - ALSO usb c card readers that u use on ur computer can be plugged into ur iPhone now to get pictures from camera sd card onto ur iPhone !

Question! I installed USB ports in the outlets in my house, and I have a USB port and in my car. Can I have a USBC to USB cable for charging? Why are the ones they supply USBC on both ends? (Or is that the only way they come?) Do I have to have an adapter? Are all of the USB outlets I had wired into my house pointless now?? 😢

will we cause harm to use the cable that comes with the phone ? im a iPhone 11 looking to get the 16 pro max and now im unsure. im not a content creator but I take videos for socials - a beginner. what do I need to know about aftersales ... I also have a charger that is not apple .. does this kill the new phone ?

I do home networking installs with configuration for clients and do network troubleshooting calls. I can’t wait to use the iPhone 15 Pro Max with my 2.5gbe ethernet adapter. I’ve had to lug around my iPad Pro to test speeds for the better part of 5 years now. The USB-C port is low-key one of the best things ever designed. Why buy specialized equipment? I already have a piece of equipment that will do the job for me and I can write it off as a business expense? It’ll be so convenient to only need my iPhone for this!

I just saw an article saying you cant even use a normal type c cable because the pins are not the same causing overheating and damage

It’s so awesome that we now can use iPad accessories for our iPhones!

And to use the usb C to hdmi instead of the lightning one, is such a big step up!
The lightning port was really bad for video output.
