Babe Ruth’s Near-Death Meal - Did you now ?
In 1926, American baseball's rising star, Babe Ruth, known for his on-field exploits, nearly saw his career come to an end because of a simple meal. During a stay in Chicago, Babe Ruth treated himself to a cold meat dish before a crucial game. Shortly after, he was struck with severe stomach pains and nearly lost his life due to a serious case of food poisoning. He was rushed to the hospital and narrowly escaped death. This episode was dubbed the ""Hot Dog Illness,"" due to suspicions about the freshness of the meat he had eaten. Legend has it he swore never to eat meat before an important game again.
Years later, he passed away, having been the first patient to receive sequential radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The medical community paid tribute to him on several occasions.
