This is an amazing short but powerful summary. I would like to use it as an intro for a talk I am giving to nurses on Empathy.

say i am a masochist, feel free to abuse me, refuse me ot even when i stayed for the patient, move my shifts around force me to stay when chronic short staffing is never addressed.Force classes, test, certification etc yet compensate me like a dog walker.I am wrong even when write. So I say goodby to a profession I once loved, valued, enjoyed. You have taken my soul and crushed it with a vise.

While some patients are really easy to take care of, you'd be surprised how many others aren't. You try turning a patient several times a shift who weighs more than the average, or making decisions for patients where they can't, or making sure everything they need is there where and when they ask for it. At the end of the day, imagine you were legally responsible for 4 - 6 people in all aspects of their living for 12 hours, on no more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep. Then tell me nursing is "easier".

cont. RN's have the MOST patient contact; more than any other provider. Detecting changes in your condition is up to the nurse. The first person to respond to codes will also most likely be your nurse. I'm guessing you aren't in a health care profession (because you make very stupid assumptions); correct me if I'm wrong. Or don't, whatever.

Basic kids stuff? Pick up a course list from an American nursing program and then tell me things like pathophysiology, pharmacology, etc are "basic kids stuff". And yes, nurses do actually have to use this material; what knowledge they focus more on will depend on the unit they work with. Its not "just laboring", we don't assess patients as much as we do to "just labor". A nurses assessment and judgement can often be what either saves your life, or kills you.

Not "trained", educated. BSN should be the basic entry level for all nurses.
