These 'Cons' sound like 'Pros' to me ... I love sea days! Thanks for this post.

That actually sounds great. Days at sea are the most relaxing part of the cruise experience for me. Definitely something I want to investigate more

I'm in, where do I sign up!!! No kids, smaller crowds!! I was in the Navy and LIKE going out to sea. So just leave me within reach of a good book, the bar, the dining room, and maybe activities like taste testing or shipboard tours and I'm good. Oh and the spa, can't forget the spa!!!

We just finished a 15-day repositioning cruise on Norwegian Star on April 3rd from Rio de Janeiro to Barcelona. We loved it, but it's definitely not for everyone. It's much more laid back, with fewer activities than I would expect, and 15 days of the same 5 'complimentary' restaurants for 2 or 3 meals a day does get a tiny bit monotonous. BUT it was also low stress, with very little pressure to do stuff, plus the ship was a lot less crowded, so it suited us well.

I did a repositioning from Canda to the Caribbean. 15 days with some interesting port stops along the way. One of my favorites. A much less hectic trip.

Sea days are definitely our preference! We are sailing a transition next week, booked on short notice at a fabulous discount, and it has more sea days than any trip we’ve taken. We’re elated.
some other benefits:
— Transitions typically have less passengers than a mainstream trip, making for a quieter voyage.
— You’ll get to watch the crew changing the decor.
— The onboard shops offer great discounts on the previous market’s merch. Ex: blowout of Caribbean shirts to make way for Alaska ones.

We've done many Atlantic, Pacific, and Alaska repositioning cruises, and absolutely love them. We don't mind the sea days and several have had very interesting itineraries which is a key item for us.

You stated two of my favorite reasons for taking a repositioning cruise: More sea days to enjoy the ship and sea and the quiet that comes with the kids at school.

My husband and I are getting ready to do a transatlantic/repositioning cruise this Thursday for our 30th anniversary, sailing from Manhattan to Southampton. I’m really looking forward to it! There are nine ports of call over two weeks so I feel like that’s a nice balance. This will be our 13th cruise (over 30 years) but first transatlantic/repositioning one. 😀

Going on a Royal Caribbean repositioning cruise this coming Monday from Los Angeles to Vancouver, B.C., one week.
We were supposed to stop at Monterey, San Francisco, Victoria. However, Monterey no longer wants cruise traffic, apparently, so we get an extra day in SF.
I have never been on a cruise before, so I figured it would be a good introduction.
Also, as a Canadian going with 3 other Canadians, it practically drops us off at our doorsteps, so that works out grand!

On the repositioning of World Europa right now, and I’m LOVING all of the sea days. At the same time, I completely appreciate how they would drive some people mad 😂

I've done two, plus a semi-repositioning voyage, and I have two more booked. I love all the sea days! My last one had six ports, none of which I had visited before. My next one is Panama from Florida to California, and has four ports that are new for me. Next year, another transatlantic with two new ports.

I loved my repositioning cruise from Venice to Florida. Relaxed but full of interesting speakers and programs and I saw ports that would not normally be available

Best cruise to take, did a 16 day transatlantic repositioning all in including air for 1600.00. Was definitely one of our favorites.

We did one on the Celebrity Edge! We got married in Eden on embarkation day and then sailed from Florida to Portugal, Spain and Italy as our honeymoon. Best decision ever!

We’ve done a few repositioning cruises and enjoy the relaxed sea days. You also get to visit some unusual ports too.

I would love to one! We are nearing retirement age. Would like zero kids, low crowds, Peaceful, relaxing, just sit on the deck, read, listen to the ocean, no stress. Friends and family have really enjoyed them.

My wife and I did one before we had kids. We were in our mid 30's and we were by far the youngest couple on the ship. It was a lot of fun and we plan on doing another reposition cruise when our children are grown.

I work in the tourism industry in a seasonal position, and I missed a repositioning cruise from the Mediterranean to the Gulf of Mexico by one week! I would have loved to have been on it, because it was an extremely long cruise for very little money. And I would have loved an excuse to just sit in the sun by the pool all day. If I ever find a repositioning cruise that falls on my hiatus, I will be on that boat in a heartbeat.
