“The shock of the cold water just melted everything away. Since then, I’ve been totally hooked.” 🌊

Meet wild swimmer @freybomley, who wrote about what the waves mean to her in The Joy of Wild Swimming, our new book that dives into 180 swimming spots ‘round the world. Freya spend a year specifically exploring Britain’s tidal pools — her fave being Dorset’s Dancing Ledge! — to get in touch with nature, grieve her brother and tap into her playful side.

Brave enough to take the plunge yourself? She recs starting in the summer and keeping it going through colder months. “If you’re not sure how long to stay in the water, a good guide is a minute for every degree. So if it’s 5 degrees, don’t stay in longer than that,” she advises, and don’t forget: “Swimming is about the little joys, so prepare post-swim treats for yourself. I find a hot water bottle, cake and flask of warm drink is always welcome and a great way to turn a stranger into a friend.”

Great explanation of what wild swimming means to you. I love being immersed in nature and feeling small but part of something huge. So peaceful and grounding. Enjoy the water 😀🏊‍♀️
