Atlantis Ibiza Es Vedra view point and caves at Cala D Hort
Показать описание
I go to Es Vedrà viewpoint, Torre Des Savinar & hike down to Atlantis Ibiza, known as Sa Pedrera Ibiza. Atlantis is a secret and guarded corner, it seems far from the rest of the world or taken from a book. A true hippie paradise on the island of Ibiza. Atlantis – Ibiza’s hidden cove – is one of the most read and talked-about places you’ll hear about when it comes to the island’s hidden secrets.
Atlantis is a fictitious name given to Sa Pedrera, a small cove in the Cala d’Hort nature reserve, opposite the huge and imposing Es Vedrà rock. It’s one of the places fans of the island look for most and it’s stunning – its unique features make any trip here a truly magical experience, with incredible views of Es Vedrà and the crystal-clear turquoise waters. It’s a diver’s paradise too, with an abundance of native marine wildlife and plants.
The strange figures you can see around the cove come from a stone quarry which was in use mainly in the 16th Century. It was from there that stone was taken to construct Dalt Vila, the wall, and the Castillo de Ibiza, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When the hippies arrived later in the 1960s the place became a mecca and meeting place. And when they came they made their mark, sculpting forms in the stone like the Buddha’s head which you can still see in the cove. The Torre des Savinar, also known as Torre del Pirata or Torre des Cap des Jueu, stands, in the opinion of many Ibizans, in the most beautiful place on the island. It is located inside the Cala d'Hort Nature Reserve , perched on a cliff, opposite the islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell. Construction was completed in 1756 and, although it was designed as an artillery tower, it never housed cannons, limiting itself to serving as a watchtower.
The one in Es savinar is the only tower that preserves its original door at the upper entrance, accessible via a ramp. The nickname of Torre del Pirata was received from the writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez in his novel 'The Dead Man. The protagonist of the novel, Jaime Febrer lived in this tower, which is currently owned by a family from Sant Josep .
