Reminds me of the t-shirts the old ‘80s Eckler’s catalogs had that said “wrap your ass in fiberglass.”

Hit hard might be the understatement of the century.

Poor girl, didn't even finish her break-in. Glad her engine is still good, and I hope the driver was alright.

Can't imagine how anyone could have survived that.

You ever thought about it could be 144.000 miles? Its a six digit counter. The light blue paint underneath the darker blue tells me it has a full respray and probably a worn out engine thats why it's replaced. The orange garden hose coolant line under the hood finishes it off. 😅hard to tell how many miles the engine really have done but probably better than the 180 horse cast iron boat anchor it had previously installed.

I'm a car guy, and this doesn't make me sad at all. This era of Corvettes were known as disco cruisers---all about the style, without any performance to back it up

No VIN, can't win, but can be easily figured out, no doubt: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, A for manual seat belts, Y for Corvette, 87 for two door plainback special coupe, 6 for 5.7L (350 CID) V8 with four barrel, RPO code "L81", then a random check digit, B for the 1981 model year, either S for St. Louis, MO assembly or 5 for Bowling Green, KY and the rest is the production sequence. The Bowling Green plant has produced Corvettes since June 1, 1981, so this car could have come from either plant. The Bowling Green plant still operates today (and still produces Corvettes) and the St. Louis, MO plant closed in 1986. After Corvette production ended there in 1981, it mostly assembled trucks.

No tag, can't brag, but this is either code 28 or code 38 Dark Blue Metallic exterior paint. There were 40, 606 Corvettes produced for the 1981 model year and 2, 522 were painted code 28 Dark Metallic Blue and 496 were painted code 38 Dark Metallic Blue out of that total. Should be code 292 Dark Blue leather interior trim.

Man, what a shame. Hope driver made it ok!
Yes, those auction fees are RIDICULOUS.

most of Coparts fees are insane. IMO there should not even be a buyers fees at all - the seller is the one that should be paying a commission to the auction not the buyer.. and the Internet bid fee is total BS - there is no live bidders, everyone is bidding online, so that is just a racket. why do i have to pay a gate fee when im having them ship me the car?? and $20 to mail a title...the only reasonable fee at Copart is the towing

I bought a 99 fixed roof coupe over 10 years ago for $3, 900.00 with 40 K miles on it. I had to replace every body part (thank you Ebay -20 cents on the dollar) except the roof and the doors. Also, I had to cut the frame off at the firewall and weld a wrecking yard one on. When done, I had 8K into it. It was the 8th and last totaled C5 Vette I fixed up. I still have it with 80 K miles now.
