If I had to guess, this fish had been caught and the person who caught it didn’t release it correctly so it had too much oxygen inside of it to swim back down, when you squeezed it, it let out the oxygen and the fish can swim away freely

Thx for the likes, I try my best to inform

He had too much oxygen in his lungs and when you squeezed him, you let all the oxygen out and he swam all fine

I'd say there isn't enough oxygen in this comment section...

Some fish just die sometimes from old age to sickness hook way to deep lack of oxygen or eat something way to big can also kill them it really unknown i say probably got a hook alittle to deep

Lack of oxygen the fish was trying to get oxygen bc of the carbon in the water since the ice acts like a shield preventing it from leaving

Fish who have been trapped under ice for extended periods of time Also deal with oxygen deprivation, so those holes being drilled are replenishing the water with fresh oxygen and the fish is using it for some much needed breaths.

Lack of oxygen thats why you should make holes during winter on lakes and other water area where isnt flow/current of you can make small windmill with small propeller in water which make some current and oxygen water and stop from freezing in that area if temperature dont drop below certain

Swim bladder...if you keep fish out of water they have a good chance of sucking air. You can see that fish blow bubbles which means it burped up that air. That's why it was able to swim off. Doesn't have to be deep water.

Can be many issues. More than likely it's gills where frozen. Or left out to long. Bring a bucket guys with a little water. Frozen gills kill.

Frozen bodies of water can often lead to a decrease in oxygen under the Ice. If he wasn't released improperly, he could've just been trying to get some air.

I just watch a video about this and they say when the fish come to the surface because he's so cold they get really slow, makes it easy to catch them

So in places like Iceland win the lakes freeze over they will drill holes or cut out blocks in the lake to alleviate the fish and the fish will come out for are because they've basically oversaturated with the lake being sealed off and they'll just come up with a net and pick the ones they want and leave the rest so I'm guessing it's something like that

He was taking a nap after some heavy fish type stuff. Then you came along and busted his nap. Rotten kid.

this can happen for a couple reasons 1 is what this guy said someone dident release it properly had to much oxygen and couldn’t swim or 2 it had to much to eat he couldent swim so he was chilling waiting for the food in his stomach to digest

The temp difference between the top and bottom are still pretty big in the winter. being in that 32 degree hole can send them into shock.

The previous Fisherman had caught it and left it on the ice for a while - while he continued Fishing. The Fish was Dying from a Lack of Oxygen when that Fisherman placed it back into the Water. So it was Floating Belly-Up from that issue.

Crappie are very finicky there like minows so someone probably left it on the ice while they continued fishing then decided he didnt want it and tried to put him back

It was a freeze out. No oxygen. DNR has opened lakes to promiscuous fishing (take all you want) in the past. Most if not all fish were going to die. Crappies/pike/bluegills were swimming up the holes. People drilled about 50 holes and walked around with a 5gal bucket and an ice scooper to lift them out.
