The way you review is just perfect. Not too loud, not too much, just the info that I needed. Thanks for the review!

I backed the Matter & Form on Indiegogo, and got mine early. It's since gathered dust. Partially, because they went back on their promise of a Linux version of the software (that was quite important to me), but mostly because the scans I was getting were awful. It would always generate fantastic point clouds that made me feel really confident with the quality of the scan, but the meshes, no matter how high my quality settings, came out like little hills on the turntable. I wanted mine to scan existing wargaming miniatures and repose or modify them, before making another, and it falls far short of that level of detail. Outstretched arms always ended up connected to feet. Faces were flat and featureless. Maybe things have improved since I put it away, but I was not thrilled with it. It was entirely wasted money, to me.

It also to point out is to spray the objects before scanning since darker parts do not pick out well.

You're right it is still probably at 'big kid's' toy level, but what a lot of fun you could have. I'd like to use it to scan some natural items, e.g. driftwood. I wonder how small it can go? Great work.

Angus, Jay in the US again...I was one of the first backers for the M&F scanner...and it's still in the box under my desk :( I just haven't had time or the need to set it up yet. Compared to our more expensive ROHR arm at work it's a toy yes, but I was going to use it to scan then re-import the .stl into Solidworks CAD to tighten the dims / correct cloud errors. I 'thought' I'd have plenty of reason to do this but actually I've yet to find one that would be worth the time (or was small enough).
I'll try to break mine out here in the next few weeks and see how it does...
Cheers - Jay

Mine arrives tomorrow from Amazon for $349, I hope it will do what I want which is scan a 9x6" Atomobile that was from inside the Mighty Microscope from Disneyland's 1967 ride Adventure thru Innerspace! Im sure it wont handle the tiny holes in the speaker grills but if it can capture the shape and seat details ill be happy as I can always scan a real sized round speaker and add it in a 3d program im concerned that this object is at the limits of size of the scanner also very worried about getting the lighting right.

Hey Angus, thanks for the review. Have you tried to put the scanner in a dark closet or box to see if it improves the scan quality?

Any review you have done for the Matter and Form V2 Portable 3D Scanner?

Hey Angus, do you know if the resolution of this first version got higher with software updates? Cuz V2 apparently has 0, 1mm vs 0, 43mm here but I think it's in the software

Hi Angus, new to all this so enjoying your videos. I am currently looking at creating a STEM centre for the UK RAF cadets. I have been looking at 3D scanners and something you might be interested in is the DIY 3D Scanner using an xbox 360 Kinect.

Do you still have this scanner or other 3d scanner? Struggling to find someone to 3d scan my ear impressions for my own CIEMs.

2022 here and it works great bit tighter shrink wrap but it will scan your clay models and make great 3d models to print from them. Wont work well for coins or tiny objects.

What scanner do you believe would have enough resolution and accuracy to complete models such as warhammer?

Do you have experience with higher level scanners at your work.

This machine is no good for wargaming unless you are playing in 12" to the foot scale ! I tried scanning a cube 3" square, it failed to produce any straight edges, and the corners were rounded, great as a dice, but not so good for duplicating buildings and vehicles ! Returned it to Amazon for a refund.
