I wish I hadn’t gone to college right out of high school. In all honesty, if he doesn’t know exactly what he’s going to do in a career, let him get a job and work until he’s ready to go. That’s how I plan for my kids if they decide they don’t want to go.... at some point I will force them, but not when they’re 18.

I took a gap year: I used it to focus on finding a job and hunt for a school for where I could work on my master's degree. I got the idea from a friend who as a husband in the military and their daughter graduated and they wanted to take her to Europe for a year before she starts college. My parents thought I was a bad idea for me but even though now I wonder if I should have gone right into studying for my degree rather than wait a year, I kind of figured that maybe I needed that break. There are a lot of things that I wished I've done or done differently when I was younger but you can't live your life based on regrets, better to have them than to wonder constantly what life would have been like. All I can say is that my story isn't over. it's never too late and Julia Child didn't learn to cook until she was like in her forties.
