This song brings me back to when me & my ex were so in love. In 1994 we went to see Luther at the MGM in Las Vegas. We were constantly fighting and I was struggling to keep our marriage together. When Luther sang this song it was as if he was singing directly to us and we vowed right there as we looked at each other and held each other promising we would be together forever. Last month my best friend and love of my life passed away. even though we had parted, we stayed very close. When Brother Luther was with us, it always seemed to be apparent that he'd experienced and continued to experience many heartaches in life, especially heartaches that seemed to be the result of unrequited, failed and/or absent love. And indeed while those heartaches seemed to be even further compounded by other painful issues in life, such as his struggles with his weight, self-esteem, sexuality, etc., from my point of view, I can't help but be inclined to believe that it is only by the Divine Plan and Power of The Almighty Creator that allowed this brother to create and give us and the world, some of the most profound and memorable love songs of all time. Yet, despite the pains of his life, the fact that he was gifted to create so many love songs, as well as, many other passionately soulful pieces of music that touched and continue to touch the hearts of so many, from generation to generation, is clear evidence of how love truly defies logic and reason. Indeed, when love is true, it exists so beyond all reason and therefore, it is can never really be quantified, qualified, justified, etcetera. And, because of the fact that true love is unconditional and illogical, it really is not a matter to be measured by the analytical limits of the mind; but, true love can only be felt, acknowledged, understood, accessed, perpetuated, validated, etcetera, via the complex and indescribable, secret-capacities of the heart and soul.
