Tootsie Tomanetz has become a Lone Star State legend as the pitmaster of a popular once-a-week barbecue in Lexington, Texas. The 83-year-old has spent a lifetime perfecting her culinary craft, but make no mistake, she doesn’t do it for the fame she’s received. NBC’s Steve Patterson has this week’s Sunday Closer.

My God ! I was there on the taping and Ms Tootsie is all that . Her bbq is superb . I was star struck when I met her ... I had no words but I could only say : you are an inspiration. She is an inspiration. I’ll be back after this pandemic is over but a bit earlier since the crowds will be bigger . God bless Ms. Tootsie.

Lived through part of the Great Depression, works at the high school as a custodian during the week, and gets up at 1am to produce the best bbq. This woman is not only the definition of a true Texan, but an inspiration to everyone.

Happened to be travelling nearby a few years ago and was told to go there while gassing up my truck. So I made the detour to check it out. Dang the meat was so tender and tasty. Don't know if she's still around but, very good eats!
