You have to understand that this tablet/phone mimics the form factor of chinese businessmen wallets that they used to carry (some still do). But nowadays in china, literally all transactions are done with the phone, making the wallet an arbitrary gadget. However, people are actually still attached to this form factor and are willing to use it.
You have to get out of the mindset that a phone must be in a phone form factor to appreciate this design.
I do agree that the OS needs tweaking, right now it's all just hacky code added to the original android system, but google is coming up with foldable support soon.

Personally, I don't think folding screens should be even designed for phones. Lu made a good point, the Samsung Note is large and thin enough. HOWEVER, at CES I also saw some wearables with folding screens, like this handbag and a hat. Maybe folding screens should be used as panels. Make them large and place them on buildings. Not smartphones.

i think its gonna be really big, maybe not folding smartphones but the fact that you can fold a really nice display like that, opens up so many doors for application, we'll see screens just about everywhere once this folding screen stuff really takes off
