In this video I'll take you step by step through how I transformed this inexpensive Ikea Dresser into an Urban Outfitters inspired and much pricier looking dresser. The materials and experience required are very minimal, making this a great beginner friendly project.

Items Mentioned

x Cane Webbing - I always try to purchase my cane webbing from one of the following companies to support their business.
For this project you will need 18" wide cane webbing at 81 inches. I highly recommend ordering a bit extra in the case of error. I used fine radioweave webbed caning.

That final result is really beautiful and I appreciate the tip on the shellac paint as primer. My only worry would be removing those stringer rails at the bottom. Because there isn't really a structural panel in the middle and the back isn't structural, they were doing a lot of the work from keeping this model from sagging in the middle. It depends on the pine, but there's a good chance this could sag over time. If it were mine I'd install another leg in the very middle. Just a thought. Again, awesome concept.

The paint color would not have been my first choice, but when you showed the finished product, I was like, YES!

That is a wonderful dresser now.. I love the way that caning changes it into something way above the usual Ikea DIY hack. Great job, thank you for sharing this one.

For those of us without paint laying around and starting fresh: The Valspar cabinet and furniture paint is great for this. Leaves no brush marks and drawers don’t stick. It’s a hybrid paint.

Classy looking. I am enjoying the two tone looks that I am seeing on DIY Youtube channels. It totally refreshes and personalizies home furnishings

WOW. This no longer looks like anything you’d find in IKEA, more like one of those high end shops. Stunning, Darling. Bravo 👏🏻 xxx

Megan, I just found you looking for daybed ideas, then this dresser and love your creativity and style. And you did all this with a sweet 2yo helper and ~8 months pregnant-Wow. Also like how you do it in the space and used what you have. I am a new follower and look forward to watching more of your work.
