What's funny for me is that this song is EXTREMELY FAMOUS in Brazil (also it has beautiful lyrics) and it would be impossible for Brazilians not recognize it. Same thing happened when Rod Stewart recorded "Do you think I'm sexy" copying the enrite melody of "Taj Mahal" from Jorge Ben. Maybe Ritchie Blackmore was more lucky when he wrote the classic "Smoke on the Water" riff "inspired" by "Maria Moita by Carlos Lyra.

What hurts the most is the fact that she lied.. she couldn't admit that she stole the music. The writer was up to an agreement, until he was denied over and over again. Now he just wants his rights and to get the music taken down from all streaming services. 🤷‍♀️

I thought it was a small excerpt, but really the whole song refers to the melody of Martinho's song, the notes that Adele eventually doesn't sing in the melody seem to be just questions of the length of the words that were used in the "adaptation" to English, something very common even in official versions of remakes of languages different from the original composition. The same harmonic cadence would even be allowed, but walking with the melody and its pauses and dynamics with 95% similarity and saying it's original would not be impossible, but it would be something compared to hitting the lottery about 3 times, lol.
