Guam is not only home to 21, 000 US military and families but to local US citizens and other citizens as well.

When we were in Guam in ‘47-‘49, there were 25, 000 people there. Now I understand there’s 125, 000! I hope all these people are safe! According to my dad, shortly after the war in ‘45 or ‘46 a big typhoon started making its way to Guam. The Air Force envisioned a big scrap pile of all their bombers. Someone came up with the idea of flying them on the ground. So the crews all got ready as if for a flight. As the wind picked up, so they revved the engines more. So at the end, all the bombers were saved. 🤗😆😋.

Some interesting facts about Guam: it was ceded to the U.S. in 1898, at the conclusion of the Spanish-American war, along with Puerto Rico and the Philippines. In ‘46 my dad used to talk to an elderly Guamian gentleman. He told my dad that when the Spanish were there, they used to go to church a lot and had a lot of crucifixes. When the Americans came, they built roads, schools and hospitals. When the Japanese came, of course it was war time, along with tortures and privation. It is approximately 4, 000 miles sw of Anchorage, Alaska, about the same distance Anchorage to Orlando. It is only 1, 500 miles east of Beijing. On a personal note, I was involved with this gal for awhile, but then it became obvious it wouldn’t work: she had spent part of her childhood playing in the snow in Alaska, I playing In the tropics on Guam. 🤗😬🥳
