"I'd like to share a revelation I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to another area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure."

The scariest part is, he's not wrong

This scene is probably one of the most epic in cinematic history (IMO). Smith expresses his disgust towards human beings and compares them to viruses but in an evil twist of irony, becomes one himself. His whole existence becomes paradoxical. Also, such a subtle action like removing his earpiece during his conversation hints that Smith is an anomaly in the system, just like Neo. The whole machines/programs developing feelings (as shown in Matrix Revolutions) were really hinted in the first movie itself. Wow, the Wachowskis have certainly mastered the art of 'show and don't tell' and a lot of respect goes to them !

0 dislikes because everyone, even people who hated the movie, knows it's true.

I watched this movie the other night for the first time...
The Wachowski’s were way ahead of their time, just spitting truths back and forth in this movie.

It’s incredibly true when you think about the logistics of it.
Similarly you could liken us to locust. Destroy entire vegetation that lays in our path.

Sadly if've come to a point, at which I have to agree with Agent Smith. :/

I have felt this for a long time an am just as guilty as the rest of us. I live in the forest now enjoying the serene beauty and quiet. I can't' pass judgment with out accepting being human too. I feel the Earth (Gaia) did fine before us and will heal when it heals and the next "experiment" will be created. I wish them luck and humility.

Agent Smith and Thanos would've had lots to talk about.

This scene is a classic on at least three levels :
1 - It's a perfect exemple of the bad guy's monologue scene
2 - It's creepily on point philosophically speaking
3 - It's a great foreshadowing of what Smith will become for the rest of the trilogy.

I find it harder and harder every year to try to argue against what Agent Smith here is trying to say. The human race is a loathsome creature. I've come to understand it as this;

There are indeed good people who would like to better our world, but they are the exception, not the standard. Our default as humans is greedy and manipulative by our very nature.

Can't really blame mother Earth for wanting to be rid of the parasites upon their backs, and at this point, I find it hard to call humans *as a whole* anything more.

This couldn’t be any more relevant than now.

So true. Even now in 21-st century the human beings are far from civilization state, most of us are everything else but civilized. And that's an undoubted and undeniable fact.
Before looking and searching the Space for intelligent life I wonder when the hell we will find it here, on our planet...

Well, it's 2023. And this statement is more true than it was in 2020!

Little did he know that viruses aren't organisms

So true! Especially true about those that have so much power, but abuse it.
