That's why public proposals are bad. It's hard for them to work out because a lot of the time the 'yes' is due to the pressure of the crowd. It doesn't always work like in the movies. I've heard a lot of public proposals like that end with the person saying 'yes', then once they're in private saying 'no' and telling them off for doing it publicly. Saying 'no' in public is embarrassing for both parties and makes the denial hit so much harder, for both parties.

I saw a news story about that sinkhole. There is actually a mine shaft underneath that park that collapsed. The mining company said they had reinforced the tunnel, but clearly not as well as they thought. Luckily no one was on the field in the tunnel when that happened. From what I heard I guess they city and the mining company are doing a joint investigation to figure out what happened exactly and the company will be paying for most if not all of the repairs work to get that park in order again.

Rule number #1 Kids, never do a marriage proposal in public. Marriage has to be a JOINT decision. Private proposals are way better because there is no pressure on either partner to say “yes” or “no”.

1. Public proposals are in general a bad idea - it just isn't fair to the person being asked.
2. Before you ask, you should already KNOW the answer - not just assume or hope, but 100% know. A proposal should effectively just be a celebratory formality that follows a decision you have both already made together
