Pinboard Bookmarking Review - Part 1

This is my walk-through tour of one of my newly most favorite service on the web. Social bookmarking is not new, but Pinboard does an absolute fantastic job at it.

@JimKalafut Yup, I can confirm that it has been very slow lately. I don't think it's been a trend necessarily, however, I think the owner has been doing testing with a lot of different server companies to see what's best for the budget and speed of the website. I think over time it will get better once he gets it all in order, but for now, I guess we just have to wait it out. I've been using the Chrome extension to avoid going to the website as often.

@Ikar1 It had a rough transition because it got really popular at once. I've been using it again with no problems anymore after he switched servers. I still highly recommend it!

It seems this is some serious niche for bookmarking (I'm now a Firefox Sync user) but I don't know how long this service will be available you see. So what would make sense is a way to backup and save it. Either in .json or the flexible .html file format.

Or is *Pinboard* strictly an online service only? If so i'm worried for how long it will last. Bookmarking is CRUCIAL!

I just created a Pinboard account last night an have to disagree with your statement that the site is "super fast". The slowness so far is almost a deal-breaker. It takes a good 3-8 seconds to respond to any click, as well as (more annoyingly) to process the bookmarklet requests.

It probably WAS super fast when you reviewed it, but I'd like to know if you've seen a slow down, and if so whether it's been a real trend or perhaps just a brief server hiccup.
