How to catch spawning crappie (part 1) Catching crappie in shallow water

In this video I show you how to catch spawning crappie using a jig. Catching crappie in shallow water is my favorite way to catch them. The crappie are moving up to spawn and can be caught around vegetation, laydowns, docks and brush. The male crappie will move up first and start making the beds to get ready for the larger female crappie. This is an exciting time to fish for crappie as the action can be fast and furious.

I agree with you completely. I LOVE single-pole sniping for crappie and watching that bobber sink! Ol' school Crappie fishin'! Nothing against the tech age but there's nothing like the adrenaline rush from the 'thump'!

The guy that tied the jigs that you are using is a great friend of the family. We have crappie fished for years together. He does ties fantastic jigs and is a really a great man.

why do you throw the fish back instead of keeping them to eat, or give them to someone else?

Wow! and there’s a part 2? Nice.... I really enjoyed watching you catch spring crappie and sharing your techniques and habits of the crappie. So does the females come in swallow water, laid some eggs and move on to another spot and then more females move up and do the same?

I like to catch them with just a minnow and a bobber, good ole fashion fishing, no live scope just trying different spots, trial and error

Great video bud at what water temperature do the fish move up that shallow? Here in Indiana it just snowed Tuesday and all week is around freezing so I'm waiting for the water to warm up next week they're talking 60 and 70

Have you tried using perspective mode in shallow water to find the crappie beds. I thought I might try it his coming weekend.

Thanks for the Video. I have a place that has a tree that is in usually around twelve feet of water. In the Summer they stack up in there but I have not been able to find them spawning. After watching this, I have not fishing shallow enough.

What’s a good pocket on fork for crappie fishing like this. And what depth am I looking for off the bank. Thanks
