How to move and place elements and objects over Auto layout elements and frames without placing inside of them. Spoiler alert: hold space bar while dragging them.

Autolayout containers mimic display flex property commonly found in web development. I think Figma should build a feature for aautolayout that mimics position absolute property in web development.
Allowing us to place items inside auto layout containers, but not following auto layout itself.

has this been changed? i'm holding down space and it's not doing this at all. everything keeps moving down in my design.

Life-saver! I've also had this issue. Sometimes I had to undo my autolayout just to put some element on top. Thanks!!

I had a very hard time getting this to work and I figured out a critical detail that was not mentioned: You must start dragging without holding space, then hold space when you drag the item into the auto-layout area. If you try to drag the item into the auto-layout area and THEN hold space, it will not work at all. You have to be holding down the space bar BEFORE your cursor moves into the auto-layout frame.

Frustrating detail!

Something happened where this used to work but doesn't seem to anymore. Dragging over wit the spacebar held still works fine but holding down the space bar while inside seems to have stopped working, for me at least. Is there a way to set something to be "free moving" after it's already been dragged into an auto layout?

This is really helpful, and it's nice to have the easy drag thing, but I really wish there was the option to set the default behavior. I feel like 80% of the time I'm trying to drag over something and only 20% into autolayout (Usually I just paste things into autolayout anyway) and it's been frustrating to remember the modifier all the time.
