Mercedes Sprinter Camper Van - Roof Battens
In this video we install plywood battens, finish the first fix electrics and foil tape the vapour barrier.

I've used 50mm Kingspan thermaboard PIR rigid slab to insulate the roof. These are held in place with stick pins and aluminium foil tape seals all the joints to complete the vapour barrier.

I'm using dry lining back boxes cut into the Kingspan insulation

I'm using a Dewalt 18v Li-Ion impact driver to screw in the self-drilling screws. A great addition to the toolkit and reasonably priced.

What you are demonstrating here is absolutely important. I once made the mistake to fix my roof lining by putting the screws directly into the metal of those roof bars without those wooden battens (just to save 2cm of valuable height...): unless you use stainless steel screws these will rust AND for absence of a decent thermal barrier you will have condensating moisture on the roof lining just where those roof bars go. In freezing winter conditions this condensating moisture will also freeze to ice crystals when the van is left unused/unheated in the cold. And when the ice melts again you will even have some drops of water falling down where you most certainly don't want to have them... Well, you learn by your mistakes...
