Discover why getting your hands dirty in designing a product can make you become a proficient engineer or designer from Phil Tsao's talk at the Hardware Massive Hong Kong event at MakerHive.

Phil holds a degree in Electrical Engineering with a Biomedical specialization. He has extensive experience with automation in the genomics & life sciences industry and is adept at electronics, mechanical design, firmware/software, and rapid prototyping. He is particularly interested in product design, machining and design for manufacturing. He is currently a design engineer at Misty West, an engineering design consultancy that blends equal parts of deep technical knowledge, creative fervor, aesthetics, experience, and the tools of their craft to serve their clients.

In this talk, Phil elaborated some of the reasons why having hands-on experience in making things/products is better. Hands-on designers can design better parts, can have increase manufacturability, and can become more familiar with material properties. Being hands-on in making your product can also prevent manufacturer miscommunication and can enable you to solve challenges early.
