I grew up with these trees :)
I have developed a taste for them and crave them every year now
The fruit has a dry astringent taste? Slightly sweet when ripe a bit tart
And definitely a cherry taste but its more wild
You can make jellys jams wine etc

These are everywhere in Ohio. They get very large where I am. I harvested some last year and I thought they were good. I plan on going back to harvest more this year to make some Jam. They are hard to harvest because they are usually very tall and the birds get them all before I get a chance.

Ours can get big before they eventually rott
Not as tall as a spruce tree but big canopy and trunks
Choke cherries are almost the same but reder fruit more tart and on bushes instead of trees
