Is Chain of Memories a spin off?

I know most KH fans don't like the combat, but the story is important!

Maybe I'm weird, but I think chain of memories is fun, it's definitely hard and annoying though lol

There is so much more going for this game than what appears on the surface that I feel is crucial to the kingdom hearts experience and the story as a whole.

In this video I discuss (albeit a bit emotionally) on why, in my opinion, Kingdom Hearts re:Chain of Memories is a good game, and why you shouldn't miss out during a first series playthrough.

Chain of Memories is not a spin off, it leads so well into Kingdom Hearts 2 and is a must watch at least. The remake also looks great and makes the transition much easier to deal with.

Chain of memories is a very important piece of the story that does get referred back to in future games, even Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3!

I'll just say that Kingdom Hearts re: chain of memories is absolutely necessary and definitely worth playing for the story (or at least revisiting later on)!

Kingdom Hearts doesn't really have any spin-off games. They are all just as important to the main series as the numbered titles are. Haley Joel Osment, voice actor for Sora, and also a fan of the series himself, refers to these non-numbered games as "mini-sequels", which is a term I have advocated to myself.

Unfortunately for newbies, *every* game is important for the main story. Cutscenes compilations at the least for games you don't wanna play.

Thanks to YouTube for recommending me this shorts. I loved ReCoM combat alot, don't care about others' opinion about the mechanics but the storyline here do affect bunch of characters, Namine, if skipped, we never know why her name is inputted in Jiminy's Journal, how she was resembled as Kairi on the first place as she knew because she warped Sora's Memories; King Mickey and Riku, how they started up wearing ORG XIII Coats, ReCoM gave us a clue who is the hooded figure talking to Diz; Axel, how he chose to betray the Organization members, let half among them perish from Sora, this also reflects the KH3 introduction of Marluxia where Sora barely remembers him.

I have been a KH player and fan for over 10 years now. I am amazed popping this vid up for me 💜

Kingdom hearts doesn't do spin-offs. Currently every game is canon. Its surreal a franchise would do this

Ngl I cryed with the end of CoM (playing with Sora), I love the combat for the card combos, spaming letal frame and then the most bizarre combos you can think, is funny for me. For those who are playing CoM remember use the Ogie Boggie card and the Vexen card those are very useful

I always found it weird that they made a mandatory game for the gba just a year befor kingdom hearts 2. Not everyone had a gba and a ps2 port didn't come till years later.

In my opinion, a spin-off doesn’t necessitate it’s unimportant, a spin-off just means it differs in some way from what you can consider the mainline entries

COM is a vital important necessary game, but its gameplay is nothing like any other game and it was originals released for the game boy advance, by technicality it’s a portable spin-off

Another example is Persona, persona 5 strikers and persona 4 arena are direct sequels to persona 4 and 5, but they are most definitely spin-offs because one is a fighting game and the other is a real time action game

They messed up the titles of this series as early as the second release. It shot the entire series in the foot, as it's the furthest thing from intuitive.
Just name them KH1, KH2, KH3, KH4, etc. It's not hard. Or number them, and then follow that with the subtitles. Someone trying to get into the series should absolutely not need to consult a guide just to this. It makes the creators look inept before even playing the game.

I read most of the manga and know the general story, but i got stuck on some random OP boss fight in the game and never beat it. I hate the combat lol

If you can, I encourage playing the GBA version instead of the PS2 remake. It makes the changed gameplay feel more justified

Super based take, CoM is an amazing story, even if the gameplay is awful imo. Not to mention it explains what happens in the year between KH1 and KH2
