Caserta Royal Palace and Park, Italy - World Heritage Journeys

Combining the influences of Versailles, Rome, and Tuscany, the Caserta Royal Palace and Park, north of Naples, was designed according to the wishes of Charles of Bourbon III by Luigi Vanvitelli, one of the greatest Italian architects of the 18th century. Caserta is considered a triumph of Italian Baroque, and ahead of its time. Expanding across 11 acres, the garden's pools, fountains and cascades are aligned through a 'telescope effect', extending as far as the eye can see.

Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997 — 18th-Century Royal Palace at Caserta with the Park, the Aqueduct of Vanvitelli, and the San Leucio Complex — and nearby towns and attractions are well worth a visit if you are in Campania or anywhere near Naples.

Caserta Royal Palace is absolutely mindblowing and still an underrated treasure off the beaten path.
The dimensions of the palace are impressive, the gardens and fountains create a magnificent backdrop and the complex is truly breathtaking.
It is a tourist destination that I recommend to every visitor, together with the islands of Ischia and Ponza.
Campania is not only Naples, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and Capri, there are many other places that are worth visiting!
The Royal Palace of Caserta is the largest former royal residence in the world, over 2 million m3 in volume and covering an area of 47, 000 m2 and a floorspace of 138, 000 square meters is distributed in the five stories of the building (Source Wikipedia)

Both Royal Savoys and Royal Bourbons (of the Two Sicilies) share claim to this palace. It was a competing palace to the Palace of Versailles in France. I would love to see it expand and finish the 20 kilometers passageway.

Big, cold, giant monster. No one ever wanted to live here... Two times bigger than Versailles... But Versailles is a place of life and warmth... Caserta is to lifeless and cold... Just not made for humans... It's just for shoving of with big masses...
