Just finished watching this series and wow Violet and Klaus played their roles EXTREMELY well. Idk why but I kept expecting a happy ending for some stupid reason and then that parents scene with the fancy doors happened and my heart dropped.

Count Olaf’s sad tone in the song makes me think there’s more to him, also because of his picture in the school. I feel like they mean to say with all his costumes that he hides behind a mask. He gives himself a role everytime, that now he lost sight of his real original self

Violet & Klaus: Yes, there's no happy endings, now here and not now...
Sunny: *gimme your leg*

This song really helps you realise how every character is feeling, the Baudelaires have given up on their happiness and accepted that their story doesn't have a happy ending, Lemony just vents all his feelings for Beatrice and how his story had no real happy ending, so he's stuck telling everyone else's, Olaf has suffered so much abuse from life he's turned to the 'Dark Side' in order to push through and Mr Poe...         Well, he just doesn't get other's sadness.       Everyone in the world feels one of the four.

In this, I actually feel sorry for Count Olaf. When he sings the line: "...some people laugh I suppose...", it slightly breaks my heart! He really has had a disturbing and dark life for him to end up the way he is.

I think it's almost "criminal" that Count Olaf almost has the most soothing voice in this song.... I know that all actors sing more or less, but his voice is terribly calming for the villain of the story. :P

Count Olaf is a major scallywag, a word which here means "untrustworthy, treacherous person", the entire season but he kind of breaks my heart here, the way he sings, like there's more to his story than we know. Fantastic first season, filled with amazing performances from every single actor. Keep it going Netflix, keep it going.

This song was a perfect way to end season 1. It’s that last reminder that there won’t be a happy ending, and you shouldn’t expect things to get better as the story continues

I think that the ending is a bit melancholic.
Melancholic means sad.

I just finished the series and **sobs** when they played this song in the Penultimate Peril Part Two and I almost cried from the nostalgia even though I watched the whole series in 4 days

LYRICS:
You may think that the Baudelaires ought to prevail and be tucked someplace all safe and sound
Count Olaf captured and rotting in jail
His hench-people nowhere around
But there's no happy endings, not here and not now
This tale is all sorrows and woes
You dream that justice and peace win the day but that's not how the story goes
You might think that two parents both brave and both true would live to a nice ripe old age
But I'm sad to say I have bad news for you
The curtain rings down on the stage
Yes, there's no happy endings, not here and not now
This tale is all sorrows and woes
You might dream that justice and peace win the day but that's not how the story goes
I once loved a girl and she thought well of me; we thought we'd be happy together
But now I'm alone as you can well see and she's cold in her grave forever
There's no happy endings, not here and not now
This tale is all sorrows and woes
You might dream that justice and peace win the day but that's not how the story goes
The world is a pair of ill-fitting pants and other dire, hideous clothes
You might think that three children would lead pleasant lives but that's not how the story goes
Some people smile at the end of the day
Some people laugh, I suppose
But to me there's nothing but gloom and despair; that's just how the story goes
That's just how the story COUGHCOUGHCOUGH
*Whistling*
Be do ba de do ba lump bum bum bum
*Whistling*
Bum bum bum bum bum bum bom BOM
Mmm, that's nice
THE END
