im an artist in my 30s, and i can say that the best decision i have ever made for my art career was starting to tell myself that my art kicks ass. as teenager i was constantly self conscious about my art, and always self deprecating myself in the descriptions. it never achieved anything but making me feel bad about my art, and others feel weird about interacting with my art. it took long to learn out of, but it was totally worth it 👍

Artfight has honestly made me feel better about my art due to how many people were so positive about the attacks they gave and received and the general vibes of the participants were very welcoming in my experience

The only negativity I saw was on tiktok and not on the actual website

I remember back in 2020, I saw a drawing that someone made of redrawing one of their older works (iirc the old one was made in 2016-2017, and the second drawing was made around 2019). My 13 yo self looked at the old drawing and was like “hey this looks like something I would draw, ” and knowing that I can improve I took me art more seriously, and 4 years later I can safely say that I enjoy drawing and the artwork that I create.

Of course, I’m not saying that it’s perfect (I don’t think it will ever be perfect), but I’m having fun drawing and that’s what matters ^^

The advice I always give people when it comes to art is…. Stop caring. It doesn’t matter if it looks good. It doesn’t matter if it looks bad. All that matters is that it is art and thats it.
A line does not have to be perfectly straight to be a line.

I find myself doubting my art every now and again, and it is hard when I compare to other artists, but then I look back at my old art…. And I’ve come so far. Im sure I fall into the plato effect, and I don’t typically take criticism, but I just generally don’t care. My art is good, thats what it always has been. It’s the best thing ever. I don’t need to get better until I want to.

I also think that focusing only on the "quality" of the end result of a creative piece can really make it easy to forget to enjoy the process of making it itself! :]

Thankfully I’m very aware about critiquing my art and when I get in the mood of just “I hate all of it and I don’t know why” I step back and take a break. After coming back later I tend to be able to spot mistakes and fix them. Now when it comes to my personal self image and taking physical compliments- even from my boyfriend- I need to work on this. Love your vids 🩵

Really useful take! I used to have really low self-confidence with my art due to comparing myself to other artists, but slowly started to break out of that mentality by focusing on my own efforts to improve. Art should be your own journey to go through, think of other artists as humans to relate to rather than idols to compare to, because even the most talented artists can feel doubts with their work. Keep up the great work!

thank you for this reminder, i have been drawing since i could barely walk and eventually i did start saying this stuff about my art at a very young age, its a bad habit ive been trying to work on and this has given me confirmation that i really shouldn’t be so hard on myself because in the end it wont do any good to me :)

Even tho i personally could only do like 5 attacks cause of multiple issues, ArtFight was great on that matter cause i saw people who were at much more advanced stages than me when it came to art be very happy about my attacks, at first i was hesitating whether to do ArtFight because i felt i wasn't at a point where i'd be capable of participating and liking my own attacks, but it turned out great so i'd say my advice with those types of things where you want to not even try because you feel like you're not good enough, is to just try actually, others point of views can really help us improve and progress :))

I used to do a lot of self defecation/ self hate when I was younger but I one day learn outgrown the self hate I used say a lot but nowadays I don't do it as much only sometimes but mostly I learn accept my flaws.

Ty for this very relatable video! #sohelpful 😁✨.

I couldn’t agree more that ArtFight really helps with not self deprecating. High temperatures aside, I performed great this year! I always look forward to it because it’s fun to practice art through it and give people art of their characters!

I was like hey you are right I shouldnt feel bad about my art its creating something no one else has... Only to realize I have just pushed that thought away myself. Also it's funny to see you talk about some things where I am like hey I said this to a friend of mine... WHILE NOT DOING TO MYSELF

some people will constantly say their art is terrible and then wonder why other artists dont wanna be friends with them. like it sucks but going around saying "woe is me" all the time is just going to scare people away because rhey dont rlly like being around negativity..

Floating silly little ram entity, cute artwork!
And as someone who's sorta unsure of themselves in the art world (and doesn't post much outside their friend group)
this channel is a godsend lul, thank you!

oh wow this made me actually realize an answer to something that’s had me at a standstill for a while ! thank you!

it’s very important to be kind to yourself when you want to make efforts towards reaching your goals. don’t let where you’re at currently discourage you from getting there! and especially if you must take smaller steps to get there. no matter what, continuously making an effort will help you overcome hurdles and get you closer to where you want to be.

keeping that in mind can be really helpful for artists! and ontop of that, it can be applied to many more if not all circumstances where someone wants to make progress towards their goals and feels discouraged.

kinda new to your channel but your videos are really well made and really nice to listen to while drawing or writing! The background art in this also looks really nice, the way you draw characters looks so cute and fluffy!
