Coronavirus outbreak: CDC doctor outlines U.S. anti-virus strategy

Doctor Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), outlined for the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday morning the overall strategy the organization is taking to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S.

An increase in testing for the coronavirus began shedding light Monday on how the illness has spread in the United States, including in Washington state, where four people died at a nursing home and some schools were closed for disinfection.

New diagnoses in several states pushed the tally of COVID-19 cases past 100, and New Hampshire reported its first case, raising the total of affected states to 11. Seattle officials announced four more deaths, bringing the total in the U.S. to six.

Sorry, I must have missed something. What exactly is the strategy? Is the US population going to be given specific instructions? Has the CDC given protocols to the medical communities at the state level? Do we have concrete information on the local level? Numbers to call? What is the procedure people should follow if they feel symptomatic? What if they have no health insurance? Do we have real data on how long the virus remains active on surfaces? Besides washing our hands 24 times daily, how should we prepare or protect ourselves? Are there plans under way to ensure undisrupted supplies of food and necessities? Just asking... Lived through the 1968 riots in DC; walked 10 miles home on 9/11. There were no plans then, I don’t see a plan now. We haven’t made much progress. 😞

In Hong Kong we do coronavirus test for free. If you are susceptible, we do repeated PCR tests, until you are well or diagnosed as poaitive. All free.

Why no building of ICU, distribution of testing kits to all EDs .How about space suits as seen on TV should all EDs have those?
How are health care workers to protect themselves, considering many such died in China? Should ED be closed? All you have done so far is is the action( can you create ICUs/ ventilators as needed?
