Ruby Spice Summersweet Clethra - Native, Flowering, Fragrant, Fall Color - In this video I plant three Ruby Spice Summersweet Clethra . It is one of my favorite plants for pollinators. The bees absolutely love these in the mid-summer. They are hardy in zones 4-9. You don't have to amend the native soil when planting.

I planted “Vanilla Spice” and love it. Beautiful shape, loaded with blooms and pollinators, and not picky about its location.

I planted a Ruby Spice during shutdown because of the fact I needed something that could tolerate wetter soil and I could stand forever and breath in the wonderful fragrance!

I looked up this video as I planted 2 I got from Park seed as sticks. I potted them up and planted as about 15 inch plants. A year later they are about 3 ft just a single branch coming up and I hope they fill out a little and give me blooms this summer. Thank you, Jo

Ended up buying one a few weeks ago! I have a slightly sloped area in the front of my house under a window (4-5ft under it) to grow a nice shrub and thought this would be nice! Part sun and shade, clay soil.

Ok, shade it is. I was worried they wouldn’t flower as well in shade but I will give it a try. I’m an enabler and baby mine. I’m working on it though. 😬 Congrats on the 100K+!

Summer sweet is one of my favorite shrubs. I love the fragrance, and I work at a nursery and generally people can smell it from across the shrub lot, and will ask me what it is. I planted ‘Sugartina Crystalina’ behind my Koi pond as low hedge with ‘Big Blue’ Liriope by the waters edge.
