I found your review really insightful. I loved this book, but I also never thought about the ending from the point of view of the crimes the participants had committed. I still think about the book months later, which is why it got 5 stars from me, but I really liked your perspective. Thanks for the review!

hi there again, my friend. i just finished this book so when i saw your video i just had to click and see what you thought of it. i think i liked it a bit better than you did as i gave it four stars (using the goodreads rating scale). what bumped it up for me a wee bit was the writing. i may have mentioned that i'm a bit of a snob when it comes to literature. i like ideas just as much as i like good writing. i thought this guy's writing was a notch above the schlock that usually gets published and marketed to the masses

you made me think though. i agree that some editing would have been to the story's benefit. some plot threads seemed to lead nowhere so what was the point? i loved your idea about those guys winning against the ladies and then switching the point of view. ending with that psychopath as a winner that was freed and out in society would have been quite interesting and thought-provoking. that would have been a very bold move by the writer, something i've not often seen. it reminds me of carrion comfort by dan simmons (another recommendation for you! ;)

quick question for you: do you keep a tally of books you read on goodreads? i wouldn't mind seeing a running list of what you read there with ratings. that's what i do with books after i read them. i don't have time to write reviews like some people do. i just give them a rating. more than once i haven't been able to remember if i read a book or not and i check my goodreads account and find out that i have read it. clearly it wasn't very good if i couldn't even remember it! at any rate, just an idea as i wouldn't mind seeing a running list of what you've read with ratings (for what they are worth)

i will leave it there. hope your housing situation is improving. stay strong!

Man, interesting perspectives on this book. I just finished it. I'm not at all sure that Simon J. Craft (a) would be"everyone's favorite character" or (b) is a psychopath. He's definitely a compelling villain. To me, his evilness, at least in the Link games, comes from his mind having been fried by that "Influencer" device. More than anything else, he seems broken and pitiable. (I'm not speaking here about his underlying crimes here; I recall he was supposed to have raped someone?)
