Jane Byrne worked as a substitute teacher in the early 60s. She was my substitute teacher at Falconer grade school for about a month. She was magnanimous! Oh, how she loved the Kennedys. She spoke fondly of them all the time. I grew up a republican. But if I had a chance to support democrat Jane Byrne for mayor, I would in a heartbeat. RIP Jane; I think of you all the time.

Decades ago, Neil wrote a great book about college pranks. Probably out of print now!

Very good summation of her life and time in office. I thought she was better than Mayor Daley Sr. and his son, little Richie Rich Daley Jr. Daley Jr. never would have got elected Mayor if  Mayor Harold Washington hadn't died. Daley Jr. was a disgrace as Cook County District Attorney. Sending innocent people to death row. He totally botched the Dowaliby case, believing that parents killed their daughter.

"sexism" of the time, yet she won. Why is that an issue.
