Here is what I think the plot is going to be:

Mario and Luigi are plumbers from Brooklyn. Other characters in Brooklyn include Spike the
foreman (Sebastian Maniscalco) and Pauline (unknown). One day in a LEGO movie esque situation, they get sucked in to a new dimension and are split up. When Mario arrives he is told by Toad that he has to rescue peach and stop bowser from obtaining all power stars and save the mushroom kingdom.

Edit: my prediction was wrong and I’m aware Luigi will most likely be the one getting rescued
