This stuff does happen, maybe not in the way they portrayed in the movie. I was discharged because of an injury that made me more than 20% disabled and back in the day (1989) I was told the by the Navy doctor the Marine Corps didn't have light duty jobs and if you aren't physically able to do what a rifleman does, then I couldn't stay in because every Marine is a rifleman. The doctor convinced me it was better for my long term health and also not fair to my fellow Marines to stay in because they would be the ones that would have to carry me if I got reinjured in a war. It took a year of rehab to get back to normal and I was discharged. When I got to the VA, the VA gave me a 0% disability and refused to give me benefits as a disabled vet. It was an unwinnable battle with the VA, even with Congressional staffs being involved (thank u for nothing Feinstein/Boxer) until the Disabled Veterans of America organization got it done. That's why I will ALWAYS donate to them when they fundraise.

The true moral of this movie is, that if Ben Foster shows up in your life, you are about to be betrayed by him or someone he works for

Seems about right for the Department of VETERAN Affairs.

Yeah, if you get a medical discharge two things can happen. One of you have less than fifteen years in you can get an early retirement at a lower rate than normal.
Or, if you have like twelve years in they take your base pay, multiply it by a x2(IIRC) then multiply it by how many years you were in. And you don’t have to pay the money back they were using to rehabilitate you.
Come on movie people, a google search would have shown that.

This film totally went under the radar, it’s definitely a decent movie & clearly underrated.

That was a good movie. Short, to the point. No commercials. I like it that way. Nice

I haven't seen this movie but after watching this clip I don't intend to. There are so many things wrong with it about the military it's beyond absurd. I wouldn't know where to start.

VA does it every day. YouTube is full of videos of it.

You don't get laid off from the Military, You sign a contract for a set amount of time. When contract is almost up You can re enlist or the Military can say you can't. When contract ends you do not get severance pay, but if you was smart enough to save up leave you can take leave close to end of contract. I had 90 days saved up when I got out

If he got an honorable discharge then he qualifies for all VA benefits which includes medical. Maybe the recap screwed up and he was actually dishonorably discharged?

It didn't seem to me as if he went back home to his family. I will have to watch it again to make sure

The moral is to fact check info before doing un-repairable actions.

I believe the moral of the recap is leaning towards do the faithful correctly . I'm not saying it correctly but I know what I mean .

My problem with military movies is they do a lot that is so wrong. If you aren’t in the military you won’t even catch the mistakes. It’s like a doctor watching medical shows. They will know every single thing done wrong. And even if they do it right technique amongst other things can look sloppy and bad. We see it all.
