Mocha Island Shallow Seep Site III | SOI Divestream 747
Показать описание
Dive Description: Part A. Initial mapping (1 h) with the M3 mapping system and SAGE CH4 Sensor survey. Low altitude passes for SAGE and visual observation to look for seepage.
Part B. We will explore a new potential seep site in shallower water off Mocha Island to characterize the environments, water, fauna, sediments and rocks of seep features at this site. Evaluate habitat types and distribution, use by surrounding deep-sea biota including commercial fish, debris. While super shallow seeps are known at Mocha Island, no direct seafloor exploration has occurred at 400 m off Mocha Island. Please be on the lookout for evidence of seepage (bubbles, carbonates, microbial mats, clams, tube aggregations, nearby corals etc), and use of the site by commercially harvested fish and invertebrates. Studies here could inform management of deeper waters.
