There is a radio station in the UK called radio2 and one of the presenters (Steve Wright)  had George Michael on just after his monumental rise to fame. And he was asked, surely being famous is great and Michael replied, 'yeah for the first 2 weeks'. I always remember that line because for me constantly being recognised and being stuck in empty go nowhere conversations is my Idea of hell. You need to be narcissistic or boarderline psychopath to be able to deal with fame. Some of the most famous peopke were driven near madness because of it. Elvis, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Sean Connery, the 'diva' singer, Mike Tyson, alchohlism, drug taking are NOTORIOUS coping mechanisms for the constant glare of strangers. I'll take the money then give the majority of it to poor people and ANNONYMOUSLY fuck off around the world for the rest of my life, see it before human greed destrys whats left...

If people got as excited about a great political leader, who actually desired to make society better, as they do about TV personalities we could do many great things.

look in the end, these guys are celebrated for their talent and the characters they brought to life. Anyone who says the entertainment industry is worthless is living in a dream and whether you like to or not, celebrity culture will continue. Anyone who wants to take down the industry will rightfully face a wall of support for it.

The fact that this caller described herself as a 'nobody' prior to her husband's participation in a 'reality show' disturbs me more than any other part of her voice mail.Sounds to me that she believes she can only be a 'somebody' by acquiring celebrity, even vicariously via her husband's 'fame'.Now THAT'S sad.

Our nation is overly obsessed with fluff news and celebrity culture but it does not mean that there isn't a place for entertainers/celebs to bring joy or meaning and inspiration to the masses. I think most rational people don't like the fact that celebs and public figures are often stalked or treated like toys with no regard for privacy, HOWEVER, these people should know very well by now what they are signing up for. They can't have it both ways. The world has a lot of fanboys/girls who do not think rationally and will annoy them or threaten them. If they can't handle this lifestyle, they should not continue to be a part of it. It's a choice. Hard to feel sorry for people who are rich and famous when normal people deal with equally difficult issues in life but get no pity and perks from our society.

I'd probably know the identity of this couple if I ever watched any reality TV shows.

@JohnPaul Dixon,
 She is talking in terms of recognition and attention in public not her own selfworth.

People on reality shows are not real celebrities. Stay out of the spotlight if you can't handle what comes with it.
