OBS Studio 25.0.8 Fix Failed to open NVENC codec error | How to fix no recording issue.
Quick workaround if you're getting the error 'Failed to open NVENC codec: Function not implemented Please check your video drivers are up to date' when you try to start recording in OBS studio screen capture program.

As some people have pointed out, making this change will use your CPU instead of GPU, just mentioning that this is a workaround (I'd argue that it's a fix to get rid of the error and allow you to screen record - but in the interests of keeping the peace let's say workaround).

> Disabling "Rescale Output" in "Output" (encoder settings) did the trick for me. <

I had it working fine previously on my system (GTX 660M, OBS ver. 27.2.0), but after i played with the settings it gave the same error. Searching through logs i found "[jim-nvenc] scaling enabled, falling back to ffmpeg". So it seems, that in my case, it occurs when OBS is trying to use ffmpeg with NVENC.

Excellent. It worked. Such BS from these companies.

You did not mention the fact that software x264 makes the video look a lot worse and also that it uses the cpu instead of the gpu. Take this video down your misinforming people.

This isn't a fix, this is a work-around that shifts the overhead to the CPU instead of the GPU. Useless for people who want to FIX the problem.
