At the end of the 1997 NFL season both the Lions and Jets needed a win in week 17 in order to make the playoffs. In this same game legendary Lions' running back, Barry Sanders, surpassed 2,000 yards rushing for the season. However, what many remember was the crazy ending to this contest. With the Jets trailing 13-10 late in fourth quarter they had a chance to take the lead or tie, but an ill-fated Leon Johnson pass was intercepted to send Detroit to the playoffs.

Watching Barry run the ball was poetry in motion.

Fun fact: the guy who tackled Barry at 2k yards (#31 for the jets) and the guy who chased him down at the end, is now the Lions defensive Coordinator! - Aaron Glenn

Great uniforms, astro-turf, Silverdome, 90s NBC graphics. This game has beautiful aesthetics.

Maybe the most humble superstar in the history of sports. I have so much respect for this guy. Great running back, but even a better person. This guy should be everyone's role model.

Amazing. Scores a 2, 000 yard season, is celebrated and given the ball and then immediately runs 53 yards for almost a TD. I don't think modern football players understand the element of anxiety he brought to games. The GOAT. PERIOD.

One of the best games I've ever seen. Essentially a playoff game. The Jets linebackers played their lanes to perfection in the first half. In the 2nd half they were a quarter step slower and Barry ran wild. This was special because Barry was up against a good, disciplined defense that was giving 110% effort. He still beat them.

I was at that game. Of the 100 plus football games I’ve been to, that was the single loudest atmosphere I’ve ever been in.

Thanks #20!

Almost threw up in disgust when the official threatened to charge Detroit a timeout for home field advantage being effective

In 1973, O.J. Simpson broke the 2, 000-yard mark against the Jets in the last game of the season. In 1997, Barry Sanders broke the 2, 000-yard mark against the Jets in the last game of the season.

Reggie Brown’s injury in the fourth quarter 1:27:20 is heavily edited. Over 15 minutes passed before they resumed play. I believe he stopped breathing at one point. The entire Lions team knelt in prayer on the middle of the field; the Jets did the same on their sideline. It was, by far, the scariest moment I’ve ever seen in a football game. Thank God he lived, and was able to resume a normal life. He was a terrific football player.

Just watching Barry get back to the line of scrimmage was some of the best running he did, turned it into an art. GOAT.

I love watching Barry's highlights. There may be RBs with better total numbers these days but there is no one that is more fun to watch than Barry. The moves he pulled, his acceleration, his instincts, and how hard he was to tackle. He always makes me laugh because he makes the defenders looks so inept... And many of them were Pro Bowl quality. I have never seen so many defenders just plain trip over their own feet and fall down. :)

This was the first NFL game I attended, and definitely the best. Thanks for the upload. I've been waiting a long time for this.

53 yards rushing combined in the first two games. An even 2, 000 yards in the last 14. Just, wow. Who doesn't love watching Barry Sanders?
