Why are you saying El buntu isn't Lubuntu ? and what's the best 3d program for this Lubuntu Compiz or Metacity

@chalinux : thanks for sharing this with everyone!

@gasperstifter You are, of course, absolutely correct. Apologies if we implied it was ONLY for low spec hardware. However, most new users will probably plump for the Unity version if their h/w is up to it

Lubuntu is the best linux distro ever!

@1Heretic Not exactly sure what you mean here. Are you asking if you can download the live CD over a dial up connection? If so, theoretically yes, but practically it's likely to be painful. You can order live CDs from Ubuntu - I'll add the link to our website page outlining this to the video description. Alternatively, add to the end of our website URL

@Alakazam2047 Lubuntu is designed for lower spec hardware and power saving, so I would imagine the amount of power - at least that used by the CPU - would be lower.. Possibly a litle less disc too - as it's more compact and so seek times would be less. I cannot say if there would be a significant effect though.

You might want to check out howtogeek's article on how to maximize battery life (cannot post the URL here) - just google for "linux laptop maximum battery life"

I've never heard anyone call Lubuntu "El buntu" before.

I don't think so, if they like KDE, compiz, OSx candies than yes,
otherwise, I think most of new users would go towards GNOME Classics desktop. For me personally KDE and Unity are to complicated for use, it's good for presentation, but not for daily use. I like LXDE with some additional applications installed, some of LXDE applications are to basic, but with additional installation of app. you like, you can make best desktop out of LXDE.

@x0xHackerx0x Sorry - meant to show the SC but fogot! As it's the same as all the other Ubuntu releases, hopefully it's not too much of a defect. I haven't figured out how to capture the screen prior to logon, bar using a videocam, which (-as you can see from our earlier efforts) is pretty lame

I normally use ffmpeg or - failing that - recordmydesktop. See the website "Application Guide" - "Capturing The Desktop" section linuceum com / Desktop / recordFFmpeg.php

Did you seriously not notice the Lubuntu Software Center? Also, it would be nice to see the LightDM login screen.

Why everybody say that Lubuntu is for old hardware. That's not true. As a 10year Gentoo user, I have my hardware up to date and I change it once a year and I use Gentoo on my Workstation and Lubuntu on my laptops.
My father who uses Lubuntu for 4 years now, love it, because of it's simplicity, I showed him few icons, Wicd, Chromium, PcmamFM, OO Writer, Excel and that's it, he doesn't bother me anymore with M$ Fatal error, trojans, spam, M$ Wizards, etc...
BTW I hate Unity. Simple is the best.
