Yea Japan Studio’s case immediately jumps to mind here, Creative risks being fulfilled are becoming rarer in every entertainment industry and management plays safe and give up. Hopefully the staff can live on as an Indie studio/manage to get hired elsewhere.

Concrete Genie is an underrated gem. It’s sad to see the studio go, they seemed to have a lot of creative spunk

Its a shame because i miss those AA Sony titles like Concrete Genie, Gravity Rush, The Last Guardian, etc.

I guess Sony's mentality is they can just license indie games as exclusives for a year like they did with Bugsnax or Kena.

Seeing Pixelopus games I think they would fit very good with Media Molecule and, considering, they are ending support for Dreams, maybe they could work with the MM’s next project

Ever since Sony moved their HQ from Japan to Cali, they've been awfully boring. I'm so sick of 3rd person games. Nearly 3 years later, there still isn't a PS5 exclusive worth a damn sans Returnal.

If it ain’t a *(3rd person, over the shoulder, story driven action game, with RPG elements)* …

Sony doesn’t want it

It's always disappointing when a studio gets shut down. But to be fair this studio only made 2 games and neither set the world on fire. I do hope all the employees get shuffled to another Sony studio aince i hate seeing people lose their jobs.

Their last game was Concrete Genie, which wasn't super marketed and sold fairly poorly. There's definetely some talent in this studio, and they could probably make more use working at other SIE studios.

Concrete Genie was quite artistic and fun. Just doesn't seem like there was much return on investment from the studio. I was hoping they'd grow that small team to see what they could evolve into. Hopefully the game they were working on gets picked up by one of their other studios.

I remember liking Concrete Genie BECAUSE it was different, a little innovative, and the game sort of progresses as a "game" along with the story progressing. Idk how to explain it, but it was just *fun* to play, something that got lost over the last few console generations.

Maybe it's because I'm Mexican but I can't help but to hear "PixelLopez" every time I heard PixelOpus during this video

This current generation of Sony is just so disappointing. Little to no risk being taken, and almost ZERO first party games that don’t just follow the regular IP formula. Much less risky titles than last gen 🙁

I think one problem is that not every studio is needed to be a AAA blockbuster or small pixel indie studios. I think the mid tier game is harder to sell and get your money back.

It feels like only Nintendo cares about the young children market.

Sony is focusing too much on triple aaa games
Sony never promotes double aa games like triple aaa games

This is a real shame, Concrete Genie is really good!

They made 2 games in 9 years. One had alright reviews, and the other had bad reviews. Neither sold very well. It's not surprising they were shut down.

Even though they only made two games, this is still sad news.

You close down the small studio and blend the employee in with the larger ones to get the numbers down before you go on your studio buying spree.

Bussiness is bussiness. If people actually cared for these smaller studios and their projects it would translate into sales, money and ultimately Sony would have had the incentive to keep them! Everyone is suddenly saddened when closures like this have already happened, but when these games release nobody buys them when it could make a difference for these smaller studios.
