I have tried the xm 4 and the xm3. The xm4 are the exact same in sound quality as the xm5, but has the design benefits on the xm3. If you don’t have the xm3 go for the xm4. If you have the xm3 but want newer headphones go for the xm5, but I’m still sticking with xm3 due to the battery life. However, the sound difference is pretty significant between the 3 and 4.

Got the xm5s earlier this week, I didn't find them to be that comfortable. Couldn't waer them for more than 20 minutes, earcups were too small. Returned them and got the sennheiser momentum 4, I think the momentum 4s sound better and feel more premium.
Note: other headphones I own, Sony wf1000xm4, bose qc 35 ii, sennheiser momentum 3, sennheiser hd660s

That said, the new ones store in a much larger travel case. So worth keeping in mind that the XM 3-4 are a LOT more compact if you are traveling or on a plane

Rocking a sony xm3 right now, and i have thought about upgrading. The thing is that it sometimes makes this weird popping sound when i am sitting in a car and using them in noisecancelling mode. And when stationary, sometimes in nc mode i can hear something rattle on the inside. Xm3 are still very good though, and a pair of new headphone qould cost a lot!

These are great but I've tried this and the Bose QC45 and can promise you the latter are significantly more comfortable. Less clamping force, less shallow ear-cups, and better head padding.

I wanted to ask is the headphone band adjuster loose for me or everyone else too

The cushions on the cups are way too small and my ears are pressed against the "cushions" within the cups and it's painful after a long time. I've gotten used to it though after a few months of usage. They're pretty great, but not particularly comfortable.

How come it doesn't cancel out the background noise when I record with the noise cancelation on? 😢

For some reason, when I wear M5s the ear cups come in contact with my ears. I don't have that issue with Bose QC45s
