Показать описание
It's going to be a mammoth task this time round with 20 anglers heading down for edible fishing over the next 3 days in peak season....
My biggest group to date and over the shortest period 😂, let's hope the weather holds up and fish are hungry....
Unfortunately I won't be fishing on this trip 😯
1st Crew Departure Tues 2pm Witbank
2nd Crew Departure Wed 23 May 2am Durban
Write Up upon my Return DD 27th May Sunday
Arrived at Mazeppa Wed 23rd May evening and settled in after a long drive.
1st Day Fishing Thurs 24th May- Split the group between the island and salt rock.
Heavy easterly winds and big swells.
Island- we reached 5:10am and could not fish the front, we decided to plug at tiny’s and then moved over to bait with no success. As the wind change direction after lunch we managed to drop 3 Baits for the anglers and it was crabs crabs crabs…We headed to salt rock for the evening…
Salt rock –couple small eds
2nd Day Fishing Fri 25th May- Split the group between the island and Gungu Channel
Island 5am onwards, guys fished live baits for eds and had 2 pickups but both were lost.
Gungu channel 7am onwards –couple small eds.
Evening Session was around Marks Cottage and my team to Shark Point for some scratching and to the left plugging/paddle tails
With my time up for the day with my team and the wind being favorable I could not resist and asked the magic question.
Can I fish? Yes it was and “KITE UP” we dropped a bait for one of the anglers Sheran and mine around 450mts out due to the messed shore zone. Whilst the team was still packing up, my reel took offffffffff slow but steady…….around 5 50 pm …..
Resulting in me getting fish-handled over the mountainous terrain to the left of shark point in the dark.
Almost 2 hrs later around 7:40pm a beaut of a BULL which measured 222cm and estimated at around 197.1kgs was landed past the dunes to the left of shark point, a distance and a half for me …..Pictures don’t do justice to the size of this fish.
Tackle used
OKUMA SLX 50 reel
Eagle claw 20/0 circle hook
Linx 3/0 power swivel
Thanks to the team who allowed me the opportunity to fish that evening and special thanks to Gillies Freedom, Andrew and Phumlani for helping me through the fight and landing this BULL, thanks to uncle RK, Sanesh, Rajen for following me to the the landing area and the rest of the guys that stayed behind waiting for our return. I could not have done this without you’ll.
Thank you Sunil Piyarlall my ever ready mentor for all the support. Lionel Crow for accompanying me and assisting the anglers.
3rd Day Fishing Sat 26th May –Split the teams between Salt rock, Gungu and Island
Salt Rock couple small edibles
Gungu couple small edibles
Island couple small edibles
Was a tough trip with surf conditions being unfavorable 2 out of 3 days which resulted us packing away our big tackle and targeting small edibles/scratching with light tackle for majority of the trip.
Return 27th May Sunday Evening
Thanks to MAC (angling club) for the awesome trip....
