Galatasaray opened their account in the newly-formatted UEFA Europa League (UEL) phase for the 2024/25 edition of the competition at the first time of asking, following a 3-1 victory over PAOK at RAMS Park. The hosts have won six of their seven H2Hs with Greek opposition in all competitions.

In the first-ever meeting between the two sides, Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente at Old Trafford in the opening game of their Europa League campaign.
Taking part in UEFA’s second-tier European competition for the fourth time in the 11 years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, Man United kicked off their campaign against the club where Erik ten Hag started his professional career as a boyhood Twente fan.

However, it was the visitors who had the first sighter on goal as Sam Lammers was picked out in the box but couldn’t find the target.

The hosts soon began to take control of the contest as Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen saw shots blocked, and the latter was celebrating his third goal in two games at Old Trafford 10 minutes before the break.

ve taken the wind out of Sociedad’s sails, something which their opponents looked to exploit early on. Evann Guessand went on a mazy run to play in Youssoufa Moukoko, who dragged wide from a tight angle, before attempting to find the net himself with a swivel and volley, but Alex Remiro was untroubled.

The visitors soon began to find the form that took them to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages last campaign, and they seized the advantage with less than 20 minutes gone.

Ander Barrenetxea offloaded it to Brais Mendez in midfield and tracked the latter’s run forward, before receiving it back and guiding a powerful, curling drive into the near top corner.

They remained on the front foot briefly after that, but Nice soon began to find their groove. Moukoko was a whisker away from turning in a teasing Jonathan Clauss cross, but it was a mistake from Sociedad which contributed to the hosts’ equaliser.

Having already endured a difficult half dealing with Badredine Bouanani, Aihen Munoz scuffed his clearance directly to Pablo Rosario, who lashed an unstoppable shot into the far corner.

Lazio made a dream start to their UEFA Europa League (UEL) campaign after a superb first-half display helped them to a convincing 3-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv - a first away win since April for Marco Baroni’s side.
Having picked up just one victory from their last 12 UEL matches on the road, Lazio looked determined to improve that record in Hamburg.

The Biancocelesti came flying out the blocks early on and their positive start was rewarded with a breakthrough inside five minutes, as Boulaye Dia stroked a clinical finish into the far corner from Pedro’s pass.

That goal sparked the hosts into life, but despite seeing plenty of the ball in promising positions, clear-cut chances came at a premium.

Erik ten Hag said he wouldn't take any pleasure from hurting the club he loved, but it was FC Twente who inflicted the damage on the Manchester United manager at Old Trafford. United seemed to be heading for a comfortable win in their Europa League opener, and a fourth clean sheet in a row, when Sam Lammers punished a string of errors to equalise for a side lying fourth in the Eredivisie. It was a painful setback for Ten Hag who had called on his side to be more clinical in the wake of Saturday's goalless draw at Crystal Palace, but he once again saw them fail to get the win they badly need after starting the new season with three victories in seven games.

The football world has paid tribute to Raphael Varane after the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and France star announced his retirement.Varane, 31, has struggled to stay fit in recent years and suffered a serious knee injury just 20 minutes into his debut for Como last month, with the defender subsequently left out of the Italian side's Serie A squad. As a result, Le Parisien had previously reported that the 31-year-old was considering a shock retirement. And on Wednesday morning, Varane called time on his glittering career, revealing the decision via a post on his Instagram account.

Tosin switching to Nigeria is a welcome development and has been long overdue. He’s better than all our current centre backs and a heir to Balogun, calm, composed ball playing centre back, who’s also good in the air, a physical presence and good game reader. If we’re going with a back four, he’ll be a perfect match with Bassey, not forgetting they were partners at Fulham.

Just for clarification, United didn’t go for Van Nistlerooy, Ten Hag was the one that called him and offered him the opportunity.

United are in purgatory, 6 points from the top and 6 points from the bottom. That should change this weekend and yes we’re definitely in the top 4 conversation, after 10 games we’ll have a better picture of the table.

Obi Martin’s deal hasn’t been made official, because there’s compensation to be settled with Arsenal and rectification with the premier league.

Obviously all Lopetegui needs at West Ham is time. New philosophy and a lot of new signings that need bedding in.

All I know, Ineos can never sack Ten Hag, he’ll sack himself. You live and die by your decisions. He grab the bull by the horn, make the right ones and be consistent .

Osimhen always making an impact in every game, 3 games 3 assists and ironically two of those assists could’ve been his goals. Yes he needs to start scoring and he will, but something I noticed Gaka play like Napoli of four seasons ago where everyone wants to score, so the team doesn’t really play through Osimhen.

No excuses for United last night, a disappointing result and I’ll put it on Ten Hag. Maguire alternated the way we play(though I’m not blaming him for that), Bruno playing 90 mins was ridiculous, also late subs. All in all we move to Porto, where we have to give a better showing and get all 3 points.
