For the people that have problems installing; Go check out this guys video on 4.1.0. A few more steps in that guide, but it solved the problem with OpenOffice not showing in  the menu

Oh, and thanks for a great guide! =)

I have now done this twice, on my desktop and a laptop. It worked perfectly both times. Thanks!

Dude, that is totally awesome!!! I've been running AbiWord (on Mint 14), b/c I HATE Libre, and there were NO good places I could find w/viable instructions for downloading OOo... And now I have it!!! Woohoo! It's good to feel this kind of excitement over running computer software again. Linux will NEVER Thank you so much Ambuj!

Sorry, Andy for late reply. I went through entire process on Linux Mint 14. To install on Linux Mint, just extract the openooffice tar.gz file. Change the directory to DEBS in terminal or Open that "DEBS" location in terminal. Next just give this command to install all debian packages inside DEBS folder : sudo dpkg -i *.deb
That 's it . It will work.

Hey Frank, In your case you have to install all of the debian packages, which is not possible to do one by one. So just use the command line, as i mentioned this in the video description .
Extract the tar.gz file. Change the directory to DEBS in terminal or Open that "DEBS" location in terminal.
Next just give this command to install all debian packages that are inside DEBS folder :
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

What you have mentioned in your reply worked for me but only after I reinstalled the desktop integration deb after: sudo dpkg -i *.deb from the DEBS directory. I think you should mention that in your about to avoid confusion. Thanks for the video and this reply :)

I followed the video exactly and can't get OO on my menu. When look for the files they all have the closed padlock on them. How can I open them, please?

For third computer install I found the install appeared to be successful but Open Office did not show up in the applications menu. I searched and found that the manual installation process on the open office forum worked. Search for 'Tutorial Installing Apache OpenOffice on GNU/Linux'

Are you able to remove libreoffice completely, because it might conflict with open office. If yes then can you able to see all the debian packages after extracting. ...??

You might have some libreoffice package unremoved from system. This may be causing conflict. Just try to remove libreoffice completely and then reinstall the apache openoffice ( restart your system, if not displaying in menu)
