I do too! Only time I don't do it is if I paint or get gel nails.

The solution might be to get gel nails to cover your natural nails. They can be filed down to look like your natural nails. You won't be able to bite your nails while you have them and you can get them filled until you break the biting habit.

My pediatrician stopped me from biting my nails when I was 8 yrs old. He told me if I continued to bite my nails I'd get an incurable disease. Well, I still don't bite my nails at 70 years old.

Recommendation: I used to severely struggle with nail bitting for as long as I can remember, up until I was abt 12 yo. Now, 4 years later, I have people come up and ask me how my fingernails r so insanely long and healthy. Well, I developed a strategy. I would dedicate 4 fingers on each hand to nail biting, and leave one finger per hand alone. Over a course of a few weeks, I would progressively reduce the amount of dedicated fingers to nail biting until I had one dedicated finger for nail biting on each hand. During this period whenever I would get the urge to bite my nails, I would just sit on my hands and find something else to distract me. Like I would quickly grab a snack, drink, or something else to chew. Now I have absolutely no desire to bite my fingernails.
Ik this technique won’t work for everyone, but if u reached the point where u think u have tried everything, than this may be worth a shot:)

I do it a lot to deal with anxiety without even realising, its a coping mechanism, a lot of people do it, yes its horrible habit, but i have started to stop very slowly, sometimes i still do it but not as much, the way i started to stop was thinking that i am biting my nails, when I’m not it controls my anxiety and it controls my nails not looking like idk what they would look like just rlly out of shape.
Love you guys!!

I NEEDED to hear someone talk about this! I bite my nails and the surrounding skin when I'm anxious and I just can't stop. It feels really nice to know other people have the same struggles

I did it too! I stopped when I started getting my nails professionally done, or just painted them, and I didn’t wanna ruin them and waste my money. Later I got braces too, so even If i wanted to I couldn’t bite them. And also, I ALWAYS carry nail files with me! It really helps fight that urge to even out the nails or the skin pieces that bother you. You can also carry around a nail clipper for the small pieces of skin.

What helped me was wearing acrylic nails.. they don't have to be long but just the plastic bring there helps... And trying to not bite my nails for so many days and ticking It off on a calenders helps tons

I used to bite my nails and didn't break the habit until I was in my 20s and what helped me was slowly making myself conscious of the habit and actively thinking about my nails throughout the day.

I also started slow, instead of trying to stop biting all my fingernails at once I started by just maintaining one finger (ex: right pinky finger) and after I could take good care of that one fingernail for a week or two without any mess ups, I'd add in another fingernail to maintain (ex: my left pinky finger). I did this adding one fingernail at a time week by week until it became easy and I no longer had to worry about biting my nails.

It also helps (for all my adhd people out there) to change the compulsive habit (biting your nails) to something good for your nails rather than bad. (Ex: keep mini nail cleaning and filing tools on your key chain and whenever you feel the need to bite your nails, clean and file them instead)
- it's nearly impossible to stop all compulsive habits, but it's possible to direct the compulsive habits to good things rather than bad ones)

It's most commonly a sign of anxiety whether you realize you have it or not.

The things that got me to stop biting my nails was having braces (which are expensive) and then after braces, was chewing gum. I chewed gum, 3 times a day, everyday, for 4 years. It helped a lot and i dont chew my nails anymore

Got the habit from a family member back when I was 3-4, I vividly remember when I started, since then I haven't been able to stop. Almost 16 now. I can't stand the feeling of my nails. I feel them touch my skin and I have to eradicate the feeling, I don't know how to stop it. I will even with nail polish. I'm willing to go on this journey with ya man.

Will definitely follow you in this journey as so many of us are struggling with this same problem, hopefully we will also find a solution ❤.

I found going for manicures helped me. You don’t have to get your nails painted but maybe seeing them cleaned up and neat could help you too.

Bruh I can relate to this so much, I bite my nails and the skin of my fingers and so yeah my fingers(hands) are the part that I'm most insecure about. I don't even remember when it started but I think it's because of my anxiety soo yeah I really need to stop
