Something not mentioned in this video. The chain inside the transfer case always spins. Regardless if you are in 2WD or 4HI. If the front wheels are turning, so will the front driveshaft that is connected to the transfer case chain.

1:00 4x4 high, but only Part Time right ? It seems to drive at a constant ratio which causes binding on dry road

Can someone please explain to me how are the sleeves actuated in the transfer case? Are they electronic actuators? And if we turn to 4H while the car is moving at 20KPH, for example, will not the gear teeth grind with each other?

Can someone explain to me why does the reduction gears dont have an effect if the dog gears are connected? Arent they still spinning with the input shaft?

0:12 SUVs might be dominating the global car park, but that's not synonymous with 4wd.

I'm sure it depends what country you're from but here in the UK, SUVs are insanely popular (god only knows why, not a fan), even though 99% of them will never see anything other than level tarmac. So most of them go for the 2wd variants.

"Chelsea tractors" we call them. Named after a posh part of London where people would get stupidly overpriced oversized cars that are completely pointless for the type of clean short range driving they do.
