By the tool, it is soooo much easier to back those off. It's a huge time saver, especially when you're doing multiple shut-offs. The tool is very economical as well.

I prefer the multi turn angle stop because you can replace the guts without having to take of the nut and ferral

This is a great video. You shouldn't have to use the pipe dope. The manufacturer recommends putting a few drops of oil on the valve threads before tightening. Once the nut contacts the valve, how much of a turn should you put on it and what does it feel like when tightening?

Thanks for using Dahal 1/4 turn
Most use brasscraft, crap. In a year the handle just breaks off.

Thank you. This is the preferred method instead of cutting the pipe which some people suggest.

In my house i went with sweat to thread adapters on the copper and just use the threaded ¼turns. I surprised thats not a more common practice. Just thread a new valve on when it get corroded

I have used all three methods at some point in my plumbing career

Its a brass ferrule, itll conform to the new valve. Just put dope on it to add a little extra protection.

You shouldn’t use sealant on them, if you can’t get them to stop leaking through traditional instal you’re doing something wrong and it will leak later. Brass on brass needs a clean surface to seal properly. It’s designed to seal against itself, brass being a soft metal.
