Rather live poor but be happy than live like a queen be miserable.
Money doesn't buy happiness

I am an Egyptian and I do not understand why you chose that YouTube thumbnail in the first place when it is from Egypt nor it depicts Farouk or Farida ....

I’m greatful for living in a time I have choices no way a life in a castle can ever be joyful. Better to be alone and poor. Sad how this story is called a Cinderella story 😢

A cruel husband is not fit to rule no matter who you are. A cinderella story, l don't think so. It was a nightmare post his love incessant bombing, it is evident he loved the chase, but didn't know how to have a happy relationship with his wife, what a tragedy for her. He knew how to pursue women, but didn't know how to connect with his wife. He knew she made him look bad

Why do societies let kings be in their midst????

It was not a Cinderella story. She's gone from a good life to a shitty life.
She wasn't covered in ashes and mistreated before she became a queen and he didn't loved her.

It's not about the demand of the duty or the expetation, it's about the narcissisn of this kings. They can't achieve private happiness because for a narcissist it's never enough, no matter what they have.

This is a huge historical moment in Egypt, Faruk was in part a tragic character in this chapter of Egyptian history

A narcissist can't love, can't feel compassion, he is only buying '' trophies '' and '' human toys ''. What she knew about life ? Nothing ! they marry her in such young age and wanted from her to be happy ? even in a gold cage birds dying from sadness .

Farouk was disloyal. Glad she divorced him.

I would much rather live in a shack on the beach than in a castle on a mountain.

Being a royal in any part of the world is not easy especially when one is not born into one.

Farouk had a challenging life, too. I am aware of his bad reputation, including as a playboy. But I wonder if he suffered from ptsd and that affected him. One of the most famous stories of him is as a young prince new to his throne -- the British tried to pressure him to agree to something controversial to Egyptians but would have benefited England at Egypt's expense. Farouk adamantly refused and the British crown's resident ordered tanks to encircle Farouk's palace with orders to fire on him. He backed down. After that, he went into a downward spiral, politically and personally.

The British actions in effect showed him to be powerless -- Egypt was under British colonial control then, and emasculated him politically and personally.

I studied modern Middle Eastern history and recall my history professor, Dr. Arthur Goldschmidt, relaying this story. Modern Egypt was one of his areas of focus.

Clearly he isn't the kind of king you would want.

Marrying Farida was perhaps the best thing Farouk ever did. He gave his country a queen who could be respected, loved & cherished by all. She stands as an example of grace & elegance, even through the worst of times. The comparison with the British royal marriage here is out of the blue.

The last King of Egypt was not Farouk. He was Fuad the Second. Born on 16 January 1952 at Abdeen Palace, King Fuad is still alive.

Queen Farida was so beautiful. She was very much loved by the Egyptian people.

It is very clear now that without a king the country fell back into feudalism.

My father was on a business trip 70 years ago when he met King Farouk. He said that King Farouk was everything which the bad publicity had said of him. He was by then grossly overweight, and spoke down to everyone around him. My father said dinner with him was a spectacle of overindulgent excess. He was certainly a narcissist. His infidelity was the fuel to his selfishness and his perception that he was quite a catch! I’d imagine that the gifts he gave to his women were the only inducement he could employ. Poor Queen Farida, eh?!
Edit: By the way, what on earth has Charles & Diana’s marriage to do with the story? King Farouk was a serial adulterer and Queen Farida was a faithful wife. It is well documented that Diana herself admitted that she had her first (of many) affairs before Charles resumed his one post marriage relationship with Camilla so there’s no genuine comparison with the story of King Farouk!

Why does the common man always desire a king or a queen, when they don't benefit from anything and still live in squalour! Why do we always look for things outside our inner selves. Why do some make idols and then bow down and worship them! Humans are still so vulnerable unto themselves. Most humans keep on making the best of life when ever the opportunity comes, in a temporary life before a permament death! Perhaps, death is life's ultimate nemesis which no one has escaped yet. No one has cheated death so far, they wll lose that bet.
