The incidence of building collapse in Nigeria has been on the increase in recent times, drawing concerns from the government and other stakeholders.
It has claimed many innocent lives, valuable properties, and huge investments with them in the cause being the non – compliance with building industry construction standards and regulations for designated buildings.
The use of substandard materials such as; inadequate quantity of cement, concrete blocks, sand, poor workmanship, and overloading or increase in floors of a building contrary to foundational scope are some of the causes of structural damage.

Similar kinds of things happen in the US too. Whenever a company is allowed to put money over lives, this kind of thing will start happening and it will happen more and more until companies are forced to value lives over money. I do, however, think that you can get in trouble if you make a building that falls during an earthquake, at least here in California since we know that we have many earthquakes here, but it would still only happen if someone didn't follow the building code so that kind of thing could be enforced everywhere. The thing is that you want to enforce it before a collapse and potential loss of life.
